The INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S STUDIES INSTITUTE  (IWSI)

Having fallen in love with Greece, I created IWSI in 1981 in order  to run travel-study programs in the Aegean.  After several years in Greece, the program expanded to Israel.  I had no plans for other destinations, but my travel siren eventually lured me all over the world.

Since 1981, IWSI has hosted close to 500 participants and has visited six continents -- Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, Australia and Latin America.  Our host destinations have been Greece, Israel, Turkey, Kenya, Hawaii, Australia, Latvia and Lithuania, Spain and Guatemala.

Why have the IWSI institutes thrived over so many years and in so many different places?  The reasons are many:

    -- stimulating workshop topics and outstanding workshop faculty

    -- adventurous participants seeking immersion in other cultures

    -- encounters with women from other countries and cultures

    -- travel costs that are as reasonable as possible 

    -- a profound community-building group experience

The best recommendation for IWSI institutes is that our participants travel with us on many different programs.  One of our alumnae has traveled with us 9 times.  IWSI participants keep coming back for a new adventure and a new group experience.

We ask our participants what women's studies subjects they would like to study and where they would like to visit.  While we always visit beautiful locations in warm or pleasant climates, we welcome suggestions about new worlds to discover.  We hope to receive suggestions from readers of this blog.
